About Brookline High School

Brookline High School has a long-standing tradition of academic excellence, innovation, and community engagement. Serving nearly 1,800 students, BHS reflects the diversity, creativity, and energy of a global learning community. Students represent more than 69 countries and speak 44 different languages, contributing to a vibrant and inclusive school culture grounded in mutual respect and shared purpose.

At BHS, students are encouraged to pursue academic achievement, personal growth, civic engagement, and creative expression. The school’s commitment to educational equity ensures that all students are supported and challenged to reach their full potential.

Academic Excellence

Academic success is central to the Brookline High School experience. Students have access to a wide range of rigorous and engaging courses, including Advanced Placement (AP), Career and Technology Education, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, and specialized programs designed to support diverse learning styles and interests.

Brookline High students consistently demonstrate strong achievement in academics, arts, athletics, leadership, and service. Graduates have earned recognition at the national and international level, including Rhodes Scholarships, National Merit honors, and prestigious awards in science, journalism, public service, and the arts.

The school also offers unique learning opportunities through academic teams, robotics, mock trial, oceanography, student government, and global travel experiences to countries including France, Mexico, Italy, China, and Cambodia.

Student Life & Community

Brookline High School offers a rich and engaging student experience both inside and outside the classroom. Students can participate in more than 50 clubs and activities, a wide range of performing and visual arts opportunities, and the largest interscholastic athletics program in New England, featuring 74 teams across 40 sports.

The school is also home to several alternative and specialized programs, including School-Within-a-School (SWS), Opportunity for Change, ExCEL, and Winthrop House, each designed to support the varied interests and needs of students.

Brookline High values student voice and democratic participation. Through student leadership opportunities and collaborative governance, students and staff work together to shape school culture, policies, and initiatives.

A Supportive Learning Environment

Brookline High School is supported by a dedicated faculty and staff, an engaged School Committee, active community organizations, and a strong Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Partnerships with organizations such as the Brookline Education Foundation, Brookline Community Foundation, and BHS Innovation Fund help expand opportunities for innovation, professional development, and student success.

Together, these partnerships help create a dynamic learning environment where students are encouraged to explore their interests, challenge themselves academically, and become thoughtful, engaged members of their communities.
