Our Program

Philosophy

The Brookline Track & Field program is dedicated to helping each athlete become the best athlete they can be. This is accomplished within a team-focused environment where athletes train together to achieve both individual and team goals.

Coaches establish training plans for team members and encourage athlete input when setting individual and team goals. We strive to create a challenging and supportive environment where athletes can excel. Athletes of all ability levels are encouraged to participate, from first-time competitors to national-caliber athletes.

Each athlete is expected to commit to doing their best. A high level of dedication is expected regardless of skill level. The benefits of the program come from the lessons learned through hard work and perseverance in pursuit of goals, not solely from achievements. We provide opportunities for athletes of all abilities through Bay State Conference competition, junior varsity meets, and invitational meets. Our goal is for every athlete to improve throughout the season while contributing to both individual and team success.

Season

The season begins on the Monday following Thanksgiving. All athletes must have required clearance paperwork on file with the Athletic Department before participating.

The season runs through the first week of February for most athletes. Varsity athletes may continue beyond that date based on qualifying standards, with some athletes competing through February vacation.

Practice

The team practices or competes six days per week. Practices are held after school in the Tappan Pavilion from approximately 3:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Saturday practices are typically held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Invitational meets may also take place on Saturdays and can run for most of the day.

Expectations and Commitment

All athletes are expected to attend practice daily unless excused. Acceptable reasons for an excused absence include illness, family emergencies, religious observances, and standardized testing.

Athletes must notify a coach if they need to miss practice. Athletes of all abilities are expected to be committed to doing their best, which begins with giving maximum effort at practice. Athletes who accumulate three unexcused absences may be dismissed from the team.
