Our Program

Program Philosophy

The Brookline Track & Field program is dedicated to helping each athlete become the best athlete they can be. Athletes train together to achieve both individual and team goals, while coaches develop training plans designed to support growth and success throughout the season.

We encourage athletes of all abilities, from first-time participants to national-caliber competitors, to do their best. A high level of dedication is expected regardless of skill level. The greatest benefits of the program come not only from athletic achievements, but also from the lessons learned through hard work, perseverance, and commitment.

Along with our Bay State Conference schedule, athletes have opportunities to compete in junior varsity meets and invitational competitions. Our goal is for every athlete to improve throughout the season while contributing to both team and individual success.

Season

The season begins on the third Monday of March. All athletes must have the required clearance paperwork on file with the athletic office before participating.

The season runs through the last week of May for most athletes. Varsity athletes may continue into postseason competition based on qualifying standards.

Practices

The team practices or competes six days per week. Practices are held after school at Downes Field from approximately 3:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday practices are typically held in the morning and last about two hours. Invitational meets may occasionally take place on Saturdays and can run for most of the day.

Expectations and Commitment

All athletes are expected to attend practice daily unless excused. Acceptable reasons for absence include illness, family emergencies, religious observances, and standardized testing. Athletes must notify a coach in advance whenever possible if they need to miss practice.

Athletes of all abilities are expected to give their best effort and demonstrate commitment to the program. Athletes who accumulate three unexcused absences may be dismissed from the team.
